Back in 2002, William found out that his family couldn’t afford to pay for school anymore. This didn’t deter the young man from educating himself. Based on a book that he’d read, William designed a power generating windmill for his family.

He decided to make his own windmill when his sister started coughing from the paraffin candles that they used for light. There was no electricity in Malawi, so they had no choice but to use candles.

William used a mix of materials for his windmill. At first, it only powered his room. Now it powers the whole house- several bublbs, 2 radios and more!

His accomplishment allowed William to become a fellow at Ted Global 2007.

Today, William attends college via a scholarship. Everyone is pretty confident that he will one ay change the world with his efforts and ideas.
