a blog about everyday heroes from around the world
On July 6, 2001 Jesse Arbogast was attacked by a shark at a Pensacola, Fla beach. Her uncle brought her to the shore. She was very badly injured. Her right arm appeared to have been sheared.

She was struggling for breath. Diana Flosenzier, Jesse’s Aunt was at the beach. She had been trained in CPR. She started giving CPR to Jesse. In the meanwhile her uncle and another lifeguard wrestled with the shark and brought her arm back.
Now when she looks back Diana Flosenzier can just not believe that she saved a life. A lot of time had passed till Jesse was taken to the hospital. Now Jesse can read and is making a strong recovery.
Diana Flosenzier saved Jesse Arbogast’s life. For this act of bravery she was awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Merit. This reinforces as to why people should take classes on rescue and CPR. Susanne Werton who also helped in the rescue was awarded the Red Certificate of Merit for her bravery.
