a blog about everyday heroes from around the world
Willian Ploth’s road to being a Canadian immigrant wasn’t easy. When he was 9, he was forced to leave his family because of the Sudan Civil War. He walked naked for 1000 miles, to seek refuge in Ethiopia. People were killing boys for their clothes, so William willingly took his off and walked. He saw many of his friends die along the way.
He arrived in Ethiopia to more war. He started walking again, this time to reach the Kakuma refugee camp.
William finally got to the shores f Canada when he was 22. He was taken in by fellow refugee who had found a home in Canada. They looked after him and gave him his first job.
Today, William does the same for the new Sudanese that arrive in his region. He knows firsthand the difficulties of starting anew and so he tries to help.
He teaches them the basics: how to work the toilet, tv and stove. He also holds a homework club, helping those who struggle in school.
He is a real hero for the Sudanese and for the rest of the world as well.
