a blog about everyday heroes from around the world
Jason Salgado worked as a pool manager in Reading’s Schlegel Park Pool. He suddenly heard commotion at the deep end of the pool. He observed that Taquann Mizell, a child, was lying at the bottom of the pool.

Being an experienced lifeguard Salgado managed to get Taquann Mizell out of the pool. But to his horror he noticed that the boy reported negative for breathing, consciousness and circulation.
Andrew Borst, who was the Assistant Pool Manager and a more experienced lifeguard, arrived on the scene. He stated giving rescue breathing to the boy using his pocket. He also repositioned him but it did not seem to work. Salgado started giving abdominal thrusts also. After concerted effort the boy started breathing. But suddenly he started having a seizure. After efforts by the lifesavers the boy started breathing on his own. He was then taken on by the fire department and rescued. Andrew Borst and Jason Salgado were hero’s of the day.
