Dr. Uninsured. That’s what Dr. Lorna Stuart should be called.

After 22 years of practice in Pennsylvania , Dr. Stuart finally got fed up with the rigid and strict requirements that insurance companies were asking from the patients as well as the doctors. She got so tired from filling up paper work and dedicating less time to her patients that she did the unthinkable.

Dr. Stuart quit her practice. She also sold her house and used the money to open up a clinic that catered to the uninsured.

She opened up her clinic in 2002 and has treated about 40,000 patients since. Patients pay what they can, sometimes as little as a dollar and fifty cents. Dr. Stuart doesn’t mind. For her, it’s not about the money and never was.
