For years, scientists have known that they way to read how the earth is feeling is through it glaciers. It’s glaciers tell stories of things past and show what’s going on now.

The glaciers at the world’s highest mountain range are not so easily reached though. For this reason, almost no one has studied it. No one except one man, and that is D.P Dobhal.

Dobhal employs simple bamboo sticks to measure the rise and fall of glacier mass in the Himalayas. He works for India’s Wadya Institute of Himalayan Geology.

Although the work is hard, lonely and cold, Dobhal says that he knows that it is the place where he needs to be. The Glaciers are the best indicator’s of the Earth and someone has to be there to watch them.
