a blog about everyday heroes from around the world
Southeast Washington D.C. is an area known for high crime rates, low incomes and extreme poverty. But one man is trying to change that and inject positive change into the community. His name is Darell Watson.
Darell Watson is the director of the Ballou Senior High School Marching Knights. His mission is simple; to instill and inspire the musicians through the high school band.
Darell doesn’t turn anyone who wants to join away. He wants to get as many kids involved as he can.
The band itself doesn’t have a lot material—wise. Duct tape is used to fix just about all of the instruments. Yet, this hasn’t stopped them from participating in national competitions. This hasn’t affected the member’s dedication wither- they practice daily for about 3 hours, having fun while learning about precision and discipline.
Banding for love and changing many lives along the way- Director Darell Watson seems to be right in tune with his mission!
